With cyber threats on the rise, it’s no wonder why we are seeing more users targeted by hackers. Unfortunately, these threats are becoming more sophisticated and it’s getting harder for users to avoid them!
Currently, a new phishing scam has been identified that targets Gmail users who use a web browser to access their e-mail accounts. The scam uses a graphic identical to the one that Google uses to indicate a PDF or Word document is attached and embeds this image directly into the body of the e-mail. When clicked, the image redirects the user to a page that asks them to enter their Google login information, ultimately stealing the user’s credentials once entered!
Gmail users are warned to be extra careful when clicking on attachments and to pay attention to the URL once the new page is opened. If the page URL does not contain “https:” or displays a “Not Secure” warning, do not continue! If you are unsure, call your dedicated IT professional to assist.
